I'm on a business trip in Chicago and had a free night for dinner. A colleague and I were told about this place a couple blocks from our hotel called Bin 36. We didn't know anything about the place but were hungry and after multiple recommendations felt we couldn't go wrong. When we got there, we quickly realized we found a little California wine oasis in the land of steak and potatoes.
The menu is seafood heavy but with light, foodie centric pairings & preparations. We ordered a several appetizer type items, specific boutique cheeses and salads as we picked at several delicious foods paired with nice glasses of white wine (I live red but when its ninety plus degrees with nearly one hundred percent humidity, you're dying for a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc).
My favorite was the slider, which demonstrates their menu versatility. Here is the overview below:
Trio of Seafood "Sliders," served with chickpea fries
Ahi Tuna, preserved lemons &^ olive tapenade
Ponzu Glazed Salmon & Shrimp Cake, with seaweed salad
Salt Cod & Potato patty, with piquillp peppers
The menu is outstanding, I could eat there several times over the next couple months (assuming I lived here) and would be happy to try all the different combinations of food & wine. If you're in Chicago, either for your life or on a pleasure / business occasion spend a lunch or dinner there, you won't be disappointed. I know I'll make my way to Bin 36 next time I'm in town.
I completely agree with everything in your blog post. I live outside of the city and went to Bin 36 this summer with a friend and found the menu to be outstanding! I did enjoy a flight of red wine and will definitely be making a trip back!
