All day travel, in fact we actually didn’t even leave the US until eleven-ish EST in the air on an overnight flight that landed on March 11th in Buenos Aires. Nothing special to report except that Dulles International Airport (Washington DC) is more than a bit run down, at least the United terminals C & D were. We had a three hour layover so we walked the entire two terminals and they both felt like portable buildings. And the food options? I know it’s an airport but this was piss poor relative to Chicago’s O’hare or Denver International or even SFO for that matter.
Day’s Observations:
- Not much
- I read “Funny Dirty Little War” by Osvaldo Soriano today. It’s a short fictional story about a small Argentine town and the craziness that ensues when one town leader decides to use the ideal of “Peronism” to condemn another town leader. It’s a satire all the way but reportedly a good indication of how stupid the ‘70’s were in Argentina.
- United’s Red Carpet club at Dulles - since we flew business class (thanks to miles) we had access to United’s club section at the airport. It was marginally nicer than anything we could find roaming both terminals but what ticked me off was that once in there they wanted to charge me for Wi-Fi access. Seems $50 a month and an access point would be a small price for United to pay to keep its best (business) customers happy, instead its trying to make a marginal buck (and I bet its peanuts) by partnering with T-mobile to sell Wi-Fi to its Red Carpet Club members. This is #126 on the list of reasons why United Airlines sucks.
- No wine today, I would have drank like a fish prior to our 12 hour flight but both of us are suffering from the same head cold that has a particular aversion to wine. Besides once we get down there we’ll be drinking plenty.
