I had a work dinner tonight at Maverick's restaurant in the Mission district of San Francisco. It's classic American faire cuisine with interesting twists in an all natural, organic type of approach to the menu. That's becoming more of the norm rather than just a trend for SF restaurants, hopefully it will catch on across the country. We ordered a bottle of wine, an Italian varietal grown by Palmina, a Santa Barbera county winery (in Lompoc), called Dolcetto.
The food was good.
Starter: Potato leek & onion soup
Main: Southern Fried Chicken with a buttermilk dressing over grits and chard.
The fried chicken is worth the visit alone, though this wasn't as good as my first time here it's a special dish that's outstanding.
Wine -
2006 Palmina Dolcetto - a lighter bodied wine with beautiful light purple coloring and delicious fruit that went well with my soup and chicken.
It was a pleasant night, filled with good food and a surprising good discovery of a wine.
