Salt Yard, London Tapas Restaurant

The 2^nd dinner of our London summit was at a tapas style restaurant by the name of Salt Yard. Located in the central London area of the city, near a bunch of bars & restaurants. Prior to dinner the English team had scheduled a visit to the London Eye, an enormous ferris wheel like structure on the Thames that contains glass tentacles, each of which hold up to twenty-five people that make a complete turn, offering up expansive and beautiful views of the entire city. The meal was a nice capper on a great night.

The Salt Yard is a small but hip restaurant that features a basement dinning room where we enjoyed a fixed menu and ordered up a Bellini to start off the evening.

Food – We had close to twenty different dishes, or tapas, I’m only listing those that I found to be memorable.

• Quail’s Eggs with Paprika Salt
• Courgette Flowers Stuffed with Monte Enebro Goat’s Cheese
• Roasted Chorizo with Muscatel Vinegar
• Chargrilled Beef Rump with Cippoline Onions

 

Wine –

2004 Planeta Syrah (Sicily, Italy) – Tobacco & spice that went along w/ the meal nicely. This was a smooth, nearly velvety rendition of a Syrah. I had not tasted any Italian Syrah before but it was nice.

2005 Teraldego, Foradori (Trentino, Italy) – light bodied, subtle on the nose, easy to drink but lacking much character or detail. 

Summary - Salt Yard was a nice find, a wonderful oasis in a city well known for their lack of food creativity and quality.  Though I have to say this past trip has opened my mind the reality that London has changed, in a major way, long gone are the Indian & British only food options, now you can eat any ethnic food you desire and be satisfied in doing so.
