JiRaffe restaurant - Santa Monica
Last night we had a partner dinner in Santa Monica, at a nice French restaurant called JiRaffe. Located on Santa Monica blvd and 5th street, its not as well known (nor expensive) as Melisse, located nearby, however the food and service were first class. The wine list was far from extensive but it did offer plenty of gems, and in particular a notable by the glass section.
I ordered the following:
Appetizer - a Purple Peruvian Gnocchi with Rock Shrimp, Roasted Pearl Onions and Mandarin Cross Tomato Concasse.
Entree - A Roasted Eggplant Ravioli with Oven Dired Tomato, Baby Spinach, Ricotta and Goat Cheese.
Wines -
I went with their two Pinot Noir's on the wines by the glass
Babcock, Pinot Noir, "Ritas Earth Cuvee", Santa Rita Hills, 2006
Babich, Pinot Noir, Marlborough (New Zealand), 2006
I enjoyed both glasses of wine, though the Babcock had more depth and character. That said I would gladly drink a full bottle of either and enjoy the night. All in all, it was an outstanding meal with good company.
