Last Thursday, during the Web 2.0 Expo, there was an event called Wine 2.0 held at the Crushpad offices in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. It was hailed as a merging of technology & wine that would showcase both area wineries as well as technology related to the wine industry. While there were plenty of wineries there was a lack of any interesting wine technologies sans Crushpad itself. The event was a lot of fun but it was more of a boozing, singles party than a true wine tasting.
Vintages Tasted -
- Twisted oak - from murphys area - good rhone style and Spanish grapes
- Jeff, the winemaker and owner, is a character.
- Rimon wines pomegrante dessert wine made in Israel- noticeable seeds and white dust. Very unique dessert wine.
-
Mollydooker -
- Cabernet (the maitre d) 2006 - nice but nothing spectacular relative to their other varietals.
- Shiraz - 2006 -
- Blue Eyed Boy 2006 - (Shiraz) - ethanol nose with a heavy handed palette pleaser. Too strong for me but a great example of the fruit forward nature of new world wines.
- Carnival of love 2006 - (Shiraz) - 99 points from Parker, this is a heavy handed, strong willed Shiraz. Much more balanced than the blue eyed boy.
- Sapid 2004 Syrah - fruit forward, pleasant. Company is starting a new brand called Jason Stephens
-
Vie winery -
- Rose 2007 - from Santa barbara grapes, subtle and nice
- Granache 2006 -
- Syrah 2006 -
- Zinfandel 2006 - blackberry like the mobile device.
- L'Etranger 2006 - Zingandel Blend -
- 122 West - Pinot noir port -
