I came off the wagon (so to speak) last week and had a wonderful 4th of July capped off by a 1991 bottle of Gary Farrell Pinot Noir.
First the incredible bottle of wine. It was brought by a family friend with a deep cellar and at first glance a 1991 Pinot from Sonoma County seemed like it maybe a bit vinegary but pleasantly it was wonderful.
1991 Gary Farrell Pinot Noir, Allen Vineyard - It was subtle with earthy tones and a tint of raspberry that I gulped down with some goat cheese, aged cheddar and an assortment of olive oil laden crackers.
The 4th of July menu included pulled pork sandwiches on brioche rolls & homemade cole slaw toppings, baked beans, fruit salad, potato chips and a full blown dessert table. Desserts included but were not limited to an assortment of See's candies, Festin's Chocolate Chip Cookies, a Smores Pie, Festin's chocolate cream cheese cupcakes and a few other things that I can't remember as my mouth waters while I write this.
All in all it was a great 4th, good food, family and friends!
