My mother in law is coming to stay with us next week to help us transition into the world of parentdom. Tonight was a kind of dry run where she came and made a four course gourmet, delicious meal.
To celebrate the occassion I opened up an '03 Duckhorn Merlot. The bottle ended up being a bit tart, it had hints of blackberry and a slightly acidic finish.
The meal started with a Brie covered in warm candied kumquats. Then a raw zucchini, sliced almond salad topped with some parsley, lemon, salt and olive oil. The main course was a wonderful marinara sauce over polenta with meatballs, surrounded by some grilled spinich & red onions. To top it off for dessert, she made a frozen buttermilk, with marinated strawberries. It was spectacular, a great way to transition back home with our newborn.
Sounds delicious!
