Visited the famous, thanks to Bottleshock and the Judgment in Paris, Chateau Montelena today for a tasting.
The grounds are beautiful though with contrasting styles - European castle with Asian lake - the wines are all good on reputation and quality. They are known for their Chardonnay, a Burgundian style, the '08 is mild but good. Though the $50 price point is high. Their Zin ('07) was spicy and a bit inbalanced, the Cabs are all solid ageable editions with the oldest we tasted ('04) being the best in terms of pairing with food, complexity and interest w/o overpowering ones palette.
Some of the best red wines in Napa Valley!
